The last well, so far

Cambodia donation water wellThis is the last well that was donated as part of our “Toilet No. 1 Project”, in 2007. We hope the family will be happy with it, and have an easier life.

Right now, I’m only missing the pictures of the “piggy banks” our nephew/niece and parents sponsored…

Streetparade ‘07 - 100 balloons

streetparade_d2d.jpg100 balloons draw attention - especially if it is 25 * 100 balloons! Check out these pictures and movie of our Zurich streetparade ‘07 event…

Ramses’ pics

Youtube video of us when we joined the main parade

For the statistics: We started inflating the balloons at noon and were ready by 4 pm. After 3 hrs in the crowd my smile muscles ached because of the posing for about 1000 photos… The number of balloons was reduced to approx. 25 by then.

Strolch - continued

Strolch kehrt nun heim.

Sang Leng Sewing Machines

Sewing machine blog.jpgThese sewing machines are just gorgeous!!!! My grandmother must have had one of these, before my grandfather bought her an electrical sewing machine. Well, maybe not a Sang Leng with what seems to be a painting of a wonderful golden dragon on it, but a decent European Elna, as those must have been the times before imports from China. These sewing machines didn’t do patterns and stitches all by their own (or by some chip logic). They just sewed, but they were good at this.
They just sew now in Cambodia, operated by four families in the Banteay Srej District, as part of our donation scheme. Thanks a lot, Chitra, for the news!

Watson strikes again

Meerkats - good news, sad news…

KMP_intro.gifSad news: Flower is dead. Bitten by a snake, and she couldn’t get over it. It’s sad to see her leave - though no one in my real live really cares (because no one watches pay TV?). The online community thinks differently… The Queen is dead. Long live the Queen - to use Cyndi’s words (or whoever it was…)
Good news: My latest venture is live: the kalahari-meerkat.com website I created with/for the Kalahari Meerkat Project. It took some time in the making, it was enormously interesting because of all I learnt about meerkats, and it brought me to using Typo3 CMS - but don’t expect details about Flower, or any other Whiskers, for that matter. That’s censored information, until Meerkat Manor: Queen of the Kalahari, and Meerkat Manor 3 are screening, next autumn… Sorry ’bout that.

PS: Yes, pangolin.li will move to Typo3. Eventually. If I ever find the time. Click here for a preview.

Brake!!!!!

Tages-Anzeiger Schaad comics Klima-Report Bremsen
It is no easy reading, the 4th IPCC Climate Report. And not pleasing, either. In short, the temperature will increase, nature catastrophes will be more disasterous, and it is our fault. The report doesn’t accuse, it just states facts. It doesn’t advise, it just shows what impact different scenarios might have. But the results are colourfully clear:

IPCC temperature forecast

It’s not globalization and economy grow as today where everyone just cares for himself (A1B), it’s not a re-regionalization where everyone just cares for himself (A2), that will keep the Earth cool, but a world “with global solutions to economic, social and environmental sustainability, including improved equity”.

Attached a few graphs I saw the same day:

  • the IPCC forecast temperature increase for the above scenarios - check out your location…
  • an NZZaS chart comparing car sales in the EU and the USA - >85% of cars in EU are small-middle, but only 30% in the US
  • and of course the Schaad comix in Tages-Anzeiger above, “Brake”…

But the sentence that really stuck is this:
“Both past and future anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions will continue to contribute to warming and sea level rise for more than a millennium, due to the timescales required for removal of this gas from the atmosphere.”

How many of the political leaders who read the report will think “I’m no longer here by 2099, so what?”
