28.7.07 - Strolch ist wieder da, nachdem er einige Tage eingesperrt war. Offenbar am Mittag entwischt, und ohne sich umzusehen zu uns marschiert. Er bleibt nun mal da - mal sehen wie er Aisha und Alba und unsere Ferien erträgt…

23.7.07 Strolch ist wieder da. Soll am 24. abgeholt werden, ist aber grad auf der Leutsch. Bringe ihn später heim.

Strolch ist nicht Strolch sondern Eugen!

Seine Familie ist gefunden, 2 km von hier in Sulz. Strolch heisst “richtig” Eugen, hat Frau (Mrs. Marple), Tochter (Findus) und Enkelin (Pünktli, die kennt er aber noch nicht persönlich), und lebt bei Familie Hess. Seit Ostern war Strolch vermisst, nach einer Ferienabwesenheit der menschlichen Familie, und seit ein fremder Strolch dort rumstreunt.

Strolch kehrt nun heim. Aisha und Alba wird’s freuen, ihr Reich wieder für sich zu haben.

Kater (jung), anhänglich, verspielt, kastriert, ohne Chip/Halsband sucht Anschluss… und wohnt seit dem 27. Juni bei uns im Garten. Aisha und Alba schätzen es nicht sehr, und Mischa hat eine Grenzübertretung in unseren Garten mit einigen Kratzern bezahlt. Aber süss ist Strolch…STMZ

Arme arme Aisha! Auch wenn es ausnahmsweise wohl eher kein Katzenbiss ist…

Eine Entzündung am Hintern scheint von einem verstopften und infizierten Analbeutel gekommen sein, die einen Abszess geformt hat, der nun aufgebrochen ist. Und Dr. Trüssel ist in den Ferien!
Die Tierärztin hat die Wunde mit Betadin und Antibiotikum (?) gespült und Aisha ohne weitere Erklärungen, dafür mit Marbocyl 5mg (Antibiotikum), Metacam Tropfen (wieder so ein Schmerzmittel, das für Katzen gar nicht zugelassen ist?) und diesem sexy Kragen heimgeschickt. Nach 2 Tagen war die Wunde so richig aufgescheuert (wohl wegen dem Kragen), eiternd, und Aisha immer noch krank. Sie hat drum nun auch noch Vetaraxoid erhalten, damit die Wunde nicht beisst und Aisha nicht dran leckt. Scheint langsam zu wirken. Aisha ist - nach 5 Tagen - langsam wieder die alte…
Alba bevorzugt es inzwischen, den Tag draussen zu verbringen. Regen ist besser als Aisha’s Kragen.

Bobby is the 2-year old tomcat of my colleague - a tiny little kitty. His recent prey was the following:

• 1 seagull (alive)
• 1 young (no baby, but halfgrown) wild duck (alive)
• 3 grown-up ducks (alive)
• 1 loaf of bread (dead)

The victims where caught on the riverbed (except for the bread, maybe), shoved up the riverbank, over a street, through the garden, and through a cat flap into the house.

Imagine this. I can’t.

I hope my colleague will find the webcam sequence of Bobby entering the flap with an adult duck.

PS: The birds survived unharmed, the bread didn’t.

Our Chinese teacher, Mrs. Liu, brought 3 decks of cards to our last lesson. Cards with pictures of animals, food or stuff, with the chinese characters and Pinyin/English translation on the reverse. This is what 3-6 year old Chinese kids use to learn reading Chinese. Contrary to us, these 3-6 year old Chinese kids can speak Chinese, though.
What struck me most, however, was that the word for Panda is 熊猫, or xiong mao (roughly pronunciated shee-oon ma-oo. Xiong means bear, which is okay. But mao means cat. A panda is thus a bear cat.

I wonder whether Alba gets a black-and-white pattern once she grows up.

Mal wieder Besuch bei Dr. Trüssel in Bremgarten. Mal wieder Katzen-Biss im Schwanz, der sich entzündete, bis es stank. Wenn die Entzündung zu tief geht, kann’s sein, dass der Schwanz weg muss. Lieber nicht. Daher erst die Operation, dann der schöne weiss-blau-weisse Verband. Alba fand’s furchtbar.

Why do cats eat some of the things they hunt and not others? Are some cats just not quick enough to catch a bird, or is hunt a manifestation of the cat’s personal freedom to choose her snack on her own? Well, here’s a non-comprehensive list:

• Aisha hunts: Birds up to the size of a blackbird, mice of any size, shrews, grasshoppers (preferrably by first biting off one hind leg, so that it hops in circles, very funny), butterflies for the fun of it - but she just eats some of the birds and mice.
• Alba hunts: birds if they are stupid enough, mice and shrews if they come too close to the house (not that she gets her paws dirty), blindworms in cool weather, and any kind of insects - but she just eats the insects.
• And Jeff the Famous Killing Machine seems to hunt: Rodents, rabbits, steaks and recently a lizard - but no birds. No insects - or are they just too tiny for a decent meal? Well, luckily there are no rabbits around our house, Aisha would love them dearly.

What can we learn of this list? Probably that there are at least three kinds of motivation defining cat hunting behaviours:

1. Size matters - the Jeff example
2. Cats just wanna have fun - Aisha’s motto
3. Lazy bugger - Alba

Am späten Nachmittag hinkt Aisha plötzlich stark, vorne links. Also Besuch beim Tierarzt. Katzenbiss Nr. 3 gleich oberhalb vom Gelenk, wahrscheinlich einige Stunden alt, geschwollen und offensichtlich schmerzhaft. Aisha wird sediert und schläft nach 5 Minuten mit offenen Augen. Die Pfote wird rasiert, die Wunden desinfiziert, gespült und verbunden. Elegant in Blau-Weiss. Aisha findet es aber trotzdem nicht so schön. Abgesehen davon, dass sie auf unserem Plattenboden geht wie wenn sie an einem Fuss einen Schlittschuh trüge.

Am nächsten Morgen ist der Verband drum weg.
